Injury Rehabilitatiion

Physical activity and actions in daily life and work can lead to injuries, muscular and joint pain or irritating physical niggles. As more people participate in sporting activities, the demand has increased for rehabilitation practitioners due to the escalation in injuries.

There are basically two types of injuries:

Acute injuries are usually the result of a single, traumatic event (e.g. tackle in football) resulting in a sprains or strains

Overuse injuries are more subtle and usually occur over a period of time. They are the result of repetitive injuries to the tendons, bones and joints. Such as persistent knees and lower back pain, Achilles tendonitis and shin splints.

In most sports and activities, overuse injuries are the most common and sometimes the most challenging to diagnose and treat.

If you are considering starting exercise from leading a sedentary lifestyle or you are returning from an injury, you should consider seeking professional advice from a fitness practitioner or your GP. See the 'How healthy are you?' page

For some athletes, having a niggle will only slow down your progress or reduce your time on the track, weights room or in the pool. There is that old cliché
"Your body is like a machine, when it breaks down it will need servicing" so make sure you have a regular body MOT!
